Kokos, the missing Jack Russell Terrier mix, is safe at home in Steamboat Springs now with owner Craig Knapp. Kokos was found this past weekend after being missing for six weeks and two days.
“She’s doing well. She’s lost 12 pounds. I brought her to the vet and her bloodwork seemed OK. Her kidneys are OK which was the main concern, a huge concern, without much water or nutrition for that long.”
Knapp thinks Kokos was in the area of Amethyst, Strawberry Park, Soda Creek, and CMC. She was spotted, so they focused on a barn behind Strawberry Park Elementary. Animal Control Officer Jennifer Good also spotted Kokos so she set a trap and that’s when they caught her. Here’s the story:
Knapp appreciates the community’s help for a month and a half.
“Oh I’d like to thank everybody who was concerned and cared. It was very comforting in a way to know that other people cared so I am extremely thankful, of course.”
Kokos is in Steamboat with two other dogs. They all came from a shelter in Thailand where Knapp used to volunteer. He had them flown to Canada where he drove to pick them up. He also says that when they go on walks now, Kokos seems to like to eat worms, which he thinks must have been something she did to survive for the six plus weeks that she was missing.
