Friends of Horizons is making funeral arrangements for Sue White, who died late last week. Sue was a familiar face at City Market in Steamboat Springs where she was a grocery bagger since 1999. City Market says she was very beloved at the store. Sue was also a gold medalist in the Special Olympics World Winter Games.
The Moffat County Balloon Festival wrapped up a happy weekend for balloon lovers. Tony St. John of Craig is a volunteer for the event.
“It brings tourism to our community. It brings people we have not met that come out from Denver, Wyoming, and Utah. They come out and they the event and then they come back next year.”
Hot air balloons lifted off over Craig for the past three mornings with fun, events, bands, vendors and Colorado Cruisers cars and semi-trucks all day long Saturday at Loudy-Simpson Park in Craig.
Steamboat Springs School Board meets at 4:30 this afternoon, at Steamboat Springs Middle School. One agenda item is an update on facilities and construction.
The Moffat County Board of County Commissioners meets Tuesday morning. Agenda items include a progress report on the new courthouse, from Roy Tipton. Dan Miller from Road and Bridge will discuss the replacement of a wrecked truck. Kari Ladrow from Moffat County Public Health will present a contract with Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald for the position of Public Health Medical Director.
The Honey Stinger Emerald Mountain Epic had mountain bikers and trail runners competing at Howelsen Hill from around the country, including local athletes from Steamboat, Craig, Hayden, Phippsburg, and Oak Creek.
One of those was Finn O’Connell who grew up in Steamboat who was crowned Prince of the ‘Boat, for the second year in a row. That means Finn had the best time on one lap of the mountain bike course and the half-marathon trail run.
Finn now lives in Montana and is a Nordic competitor for the U.S. Ski Team. A record was broken Saturday in the 52-mile mountain bike portion of the Emerald Mountain Epic.
Taylor Lideen is from Arkansas and finished in three hours and 52 minutes.
Then there were those few who did the full 52-mile mountain bike ride on Saturday and the 26-mile marathon trail run on Sunday. King of the ‘Boat was Brad Neagos from Durango.
Queen of the Boat was Jennifer Razee from Edwards, with Karina Schwartznau of Steamboat right behind her in second.
And finally… Zipper Merge in the construction zone along Hwy 40 in Steamboat. Use both lanes until the merge point.
