A member of the Craig Interagency Hotshot Crew died fighting a fire in Oregon Wednesday. 27-year-old Collin Hagan was from Michigan but he was living in Craig. It was his first season on the Craig Hotshots firefighting team as a wildland firefighter. Hagan was critically injured after being struck by a tree.
Striping starts today in the parking lot at Steamboat Springs High School. It will be finished by Sunday night. The entire parking lot has been reconfigured, and repaved. Seventy student parking spots have been added. There is a new dropoff-pickup for parents. Staff comes back next week. Check out the new configuration next week before going back to school. Inside the high school, the theatre has been completely revamped with new seats, carpet, paint, and lighting.
The Grand Champion Market Beef winner at the Moffat County Fair is Michael Voloshin who will be a senior at Moffat County High School. Voloshin also won Grand Champion Market Goats yesterday.
There’s fun all day Saturday with the Parade of Champions and Livestock Sale Saturday night. It’s all at the Moffat County Fairgrounds. Here’s Call Camblin, the Moffat County Fair Board President.
The Routt County Fair is next week, at the fairgrounds in Hayden.

Opera Steamboat presents “The Three Feathers” Friday and Saturday nights. That’s at 7 p.m. at Steamboat Springs Middle School. Tickets are at OperaSteamboat.org
The Steamboat Gravel ride is Sunday, with 3,000 cyclists. Look for closures on Yampa Street through the weekend.
The 2nd Annual Football & Fire is tonight at the football field at Soroco High School. The Soroco football team will face off against the Yampa Fire Department in a flag football game. It starts at 5 p.m.
The Hayden Granary has another Barn Dance on Saturday night, Aug. 13. The fun starts at 7 p.m. at the Granary. The Barn Dance is free, but donations are accepted.
Saturday morning is the Back to School and Community Resource Fair at Breeze Street Park in Craig. It’s hosted by Love Inc, and the Housing Alliance. There will be food, haircuts, clothes, school supplies and more. It’s from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Breeze Street Park in Craig tomorrow.
Sunday afternoon, Aug. 14 is the August Flower Garden Tour in Yampa. Meet at the Yampa Library at 1 p.m. for a tour of local flower gardens with local gardener Andrea Sponseller.
And finally… Zipper Merge in the construction zone along Hwy 40 in Steamboat. Use both lanes until the merge point.
