NOW — Deadline Dec. 8-9 — Gift the Gift of Food this Holiday Season 

United Way of the Yampa Valley is collecting $25 food gift cards from City Market and Safeway in Steamboat Springs and City Market or Walmart in Craig. These will be given to families in need on their next grocery trip. These families are nominated by local schools, health and human service organizations and other nonprofits.

Coats from the Coat Drive are now available at LiftUp of Routt County. This is for Routt County residents. Get a coat voucher from the LiftUp Food Bank or a case worker. The coats are available through Nov. 30.

 

Now through the holidays

LiftUp of Routt County has started a campaign to get 700 turkeys and 700 hams to give to families in Routt County for the upcoming holiday season. Bring your meat donations in to LiftUp, or drop by a donation, in person or online at LiftUp.org Donate and Support LiftUp of Routt County The hams have been donated with a donation from SBNY. Turkeys are still needed.

Women United and United Way of the Yampa Valley are hosting a Homebuying 3-Class Series, wrapping up on Nov. 12. Learn how to prepare, work through the process, and finalize buying a home. Nov. 13-15

The Warren Miller movie “Sno-Ciety” is Nov. 13-15 at Colorado Mountain College in Steamboat Springs. It’s hosted by Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club as an annual fundraiser to support SSWSC athletes.. One section of this year’s movie includes the 43rd annual Cardboard Classic at Steamboat Resort. Showtimes are 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, and two showings at 4 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online. Link to purchase tickets.

“Farce of Habit” is on stage at the Julie Harris Theater at Perry-Mansfield. Shows are at 7 p.m. Nov. 13-15 with a special 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Nov. 16. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.

Nov. 13-15

Moffat County High School’s Theatre fall production will be three short, one-act plays: “The Visitors” by Del Martin, “I, Chorus” by Ian McWerthy, and “Our Place” by Terry Wayne Gabbard. This year our performances are at 7 p.m. onThursday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13-15, with a special 2 p.m. matinee on that Saturday. Tickets are $8 for general admission or free for Moffat County High School students with their student I.D. The production is in the MCHS Auditorium.

Yampa Valley Foods is celebrating “Local Food, Local People” with a Happy Hour from 5-6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at 35 11th Street in Steamboat Springs. The event is being held as a partnership with Community Agriculture Alliance and LiftUp of Routt County, to connect local producers with neighbors in need.

An event to remember Charlie Kirk is being held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, on the lawn of the Historic Routt County Courthouse. Organizers say all are welcome, whether you agree with Charlie Kirk’s views or not, that no political parties will be discussed, and that the event is to promote a civil dialogue.

 

Nov. 14

Routt County Search and Rescue presents Rescue Reels. It’s an evening of short films from the field, supporting Routt County Search and Rescue. The fun starts at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at Wildhorse Cinema. Tickets are $20 and available at the door. There’s also a Silent Auction. Link for Tickets

Step into the spectacular world of Cirque Mélodie: A Foolish Wag! A breathtaking new circus production celebrating the music and mythos of Mozart—live at the Strings Music Pavilion.

The Yampa Arts & Crafts Fair is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at South Routt Elementary School in Yampa. It’s the 44th year for the annual fair with over 60 booth spaces. The Mountain Tapestry Choir performs at 11 a.m. and Santa arrives at 2:30 p.m.

The Veterans Center is hosting Yoga classes on Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Veterans Center. There’s an online Chair Yoga Core & Balance Class at 9 a.m. and then an in-person Gentle Yoga Class at 2 p.m. at The Veterans Center. Donations will be used to support the Veterans Yoga Project during Veterans Gratitude Week. Routt County Emergency Management is looking for volunteers to join the Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT. Training is from 5-8 on Monday, Nov. 17 at the Routt County Emergency Operations Center. It’s a way to be involved in the community and be more prepared in case of an emergency. 1st and 3rd Wednesdays (Nov.  19, Dec. 3 and 17)

All are invited for CRIBBAGE at The Veterans Center. This is for beginners or experts and anyone who would like to join, from 6-8 p.m. on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month.

Memorial Regional Health hosts expert tips from dermatologist Jessica Nyquist on the subject, “Itching for Relief this Winter?” This is at noon on Thursday, Nov. 20, in the conference rooms at Memorial Regional Health in Craig.

Turkey Bingo is Saturday afternoon and evening, at the Steamboat Springs Community Center, presented by the Rotary Club of Steamboat Springs. All proceeds benefit VFW Post 4264 and American Legion Post 44. Win desserts and turkeys. It’s $20 per session, and there are three sessions at noon, 2:30, and 5 p.m.. Kids under 10 are free.

The Steamboat Springs 5K Turkey Trot is at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Thanksgiving Day. This Thanksgiving tradition is open for all runners and walkers. The 5K starts at Steamboat Springs High School and benefits the SSHS Track & Field and Cross Country programs. Dress in cold weather running gear and your best Thanksgiving Day attire. Also, bring a donation to the LiftUp Food bank.

This is an 18+ event that showcases “Great Photo, Lovely Life,” which shines a light on child sexual abuse. This is a difficult topic, however it is extremely important to talk about, so that our community can stand together to protect children.

The Visa Big Air presented by Toyota returns to Steamboat Dec 11–13 as the first qualifying event for the U.S. Freeski and Snowboard Teams. There will be 200 world-class skiers and riders competing from 33 nations. Plus, enjoy a free concert from The Motet at 3:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, in Steamboat Square.

Then at 5:30 p.m., light up the night with the Balloon Glow.

The Tread of Pioneers Museum unveils a new exhibit on Wednesday, Oct. 22. “This is Native Art” features the artwork of 26 contemporary Native American artists. 

Artist, activist, and author Danielle SeeWalker is the curator of the exhibit which originally opened at the Colorado State Capitol last winter before going to the Golden History Museum. 

“We wanted to show that Native art is not frozen in time—it is modern, diverse, and deeply connected to lived experiences today,” said curator SeeWalker.

 

Northwest Colorado Health looking for volunteers

Northwest Colorado Health is seeking community members to join our volunteer team in Routt and Moffat counties. There is currently a specific need for volunteers in Moffat County, as well as bilingual English/Spanish volunteers in either county. Opportunities include:

  • Hospice Volunteers – provide comfort and support to Hospice patients (direct service), or support Hospice families by running errands, cooking meals or assisting with other tasks (indirect service);
  • The Haven Assisted Living Volunteers – share a talent or skill with residents in Hayden;
  • Event Volunteers – support fundraising events by helping to sell and deliver Hospice Daffodils in the spring or assist with the Rubber Ducky Race for Hospice in the summer/fall.

We welcome volunteers of all ages and backgrounds and will tailor positions to your unique skills, availability and experience. Hospice certification training is required for individuals interested in working directly with Hospice patients; the next training for these volunteer roles will be held in early May.

Moffat County 4-H is looking for 4-H leaders. They need help with things like leatherwork and woodworking, foods, baking, beekeeping, sewing, and scrapbooking. Reach out to the local 4-H office if you’re interested. 970-824-9180.

Tuesday nights

Bingo Night is from 6-7:30 p.m. every Tuesday at Mythology Distillery. But first, it’s free music from 5-6 p.m. featuring Jay Roemer. Free to play. Three games per night. Win a cocktail, some Mythology swag or a bottle of something tasty at Mythology’s Tuesday Bingo night.  2875 Elk River Road. Saturday afternoons, enjoy live music in the Whiskey Garden Party. DJs are having fun on Sunday afternoons.

Community grief support groups are available in Steamboat Springs at the Heart of Steamboat United Methodist Church, in the fireplace room there. This is at 736 Oak Street. They meet from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Groups also meet at the Hayden Public Library. That’s from 3-4 pm. on the first and third Monday of each month.

Meetings focus on understanding death and honoring connection with a deceased loved one while making a healthy transition into life without that person. These support groups are free and open to the community. The Craig branch of the Moffat County Library is partnering with local Girl Scouts to offer a special Saturday Story Time. The Girl Scouts will be reading the books at 3:30 p.m. on every third Saturday of the month. This is in addition to regular Story Time every Thursday, which has story time sessions at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. each week.

 

 

The “Partners” organization is looking for some male mentors. This is for Routt and Moffat counties. They have 25 youth on a waitlist and they especially need men to help be a mentor. Applications are at PartnersYouth.org or reach out to Erin@PartnersYouth.org

 

First and Third Thursdays
