What is better than fireworks on the 4th of July? Steamboat Springs City Council would like some ideas for options. Applications are being accepted for an alternative on the 4th of July, from fireworks, which can’t happen anymore because of wildfire threats.
There is a questionnaire to fill out. Applicants will be reviewed and a finalist selected by City Council. A permit will then have to be submitted to receive funding from the city.
Event producers wishing to submit a special event application for putting on the July 4th event must fill out the expedited questionnaire and submit it directly to Teresa Long, tlong@steamboatspring.net, by March 21.
Press Release from the City of Steamboat Springs; March 12, 2025.
Council Committee Accepting July 4th Event Applications
Holiday Events Reviewed & Selected for One-Time Special Event Funding
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-March 12, 2025-The city is accepting applications for an additional Fourth of July evening event to take the place of fireworks, which are no longer possible due to conditions and wildfire threats.
City Council completed this same process last year when a drone show was selected to receive the funding for that particular holiday year. For 2025, City Council is again interested in supporting an evening event that will close out the July 4th day’s events and provide a culmination to the holiday for the community.
Event producers wishing to submit a special event application for putting on the July 4th event must fill out the expedited questionnaire and submit it directly to Teresa Long, tlong@steamboatspring.net, by March 21.
Questionnaires will be reviewed, applicants will be interviewed, and finalists will be selected by City Council. Finalists will need to complete and submit a comprehensive special event permit application to receive funding. All applications for the July 4th event will be vetted through the city’s current special event process ensuring that they meet required criteria and requirements.
This year, the Fourth of July is a Friday and traditional events like the Lion’s Club Pancake Breakfast, Nordic Combine Roller Ski Race, July 4th Parade, Jumpin & Jammin Ski Jump Competition, and the Steamboat Springs ProRodeo Series are currently scheduled to take place.
