The official ribbon cutting for The Cottonwoods at Mid Valley was Thursday morning. This is for 86 new deed-restricted condominiums for local workers through Yampa Valley Housing Authority. The condos are priced in the mid-$200,000s to mid $400,000s.

Alyssa Cartmill, Regional Property and Asset Manager for YVHA, told the crowd that The Cottonwoods at Mid Valley is the first work force housing for sale in Steamboat Springs in the last 20 years. There are 16 new owners with 32 condos under contract and three closings this week. Ninety-nine percent are first-time homebuyers.

YVHA Acting Executive Director, Elliot Lawrence, noted that it has been 953 days since the groundbreaking for The Cottonwoods, which was in October 2023. The land was donated from an anonymous, philanthropic donor. Lawrence added, “It takes a community and a team effort,” and he thanked everyone involved.
Lawrence said, “The owners represent the work force in Steamboat Springs.”

Other speakers were Tim Sabo from 6732 Partners, which is a local development company partnered with YVHA to build the Cottonwoods at Mid Valley.

Greg Kushner is Vide President of Hausmann Construction.

Steamboat Springs City Council President Steve Muntean says The Cottonwoods is a big win for the community. “We need to keep younger people here and the only way to do that is to keep this place more affordable.”
Muntean spoke of how the City of Steamboat Springs put in $10 million from the Short-Term Rental Tax fund, which is to be used specifically to lower housing costs in Steamboat Springs and make housing more affordable.

State Representative, House District 26 — Meghan Lukens congratulated everyone who helped make it happen.
