An arrest warrant has been issued for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk in Santa Clara County, California, following an investigation into a video he posted online that appeared to show him driving well above the speed limit near Levi’s Stadium. The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office confirmed the warrant carries a misdemeanor charge of exhibition of speed, marking yet another turbulent chapter in the pass-catcher’s increasingly fractured relationship with the organization.

The legal action stems from a self-recorded video Aiyuk uploaded to his YouTube channel in December 2025. In the footage, captured from the driver’s seat of a Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, the speedometer is visible as the vehicle travels past Levi’s Stadium at speeds exceeding 100 mph on Tasman Drive, a road with a posted 40 mph limit.

Following severe public criticism regarding safety, the 28-year-old wideout removed the clip and issued an online apology. “Sorry ya’ll, my car content won’t come with speeding anymore,” Aiyuk wrote in a post to YouTube. “Was praying with my son tonight and wouldn’t want anybody else to miss out on an opportunity to do the same with their loved ones! My apolo gies.”  Despite the apology, the Santa Clara Police Department launched an investigation and submitted the case to prosecutors on Jan. 15.   Under California law, a conviction for exhibition of speed can carry penalties that include fines, probation, community service, and possible jail time.

The off-field legal issue adds complication to an ongoing stalemate between the franchise and the former first-round draft pick, who has not played a game since tearing the ACL, MCL, and meniscus in his right knee in October 2024. Last July, San Francisco placed Aiyuk on the reserve/left squad list and voided roughly $27 million in contract guarantees for the 2026 season due to his failure to attend mandatory knee rehabilitation sessions. Team leadership signaled a definitive split earlier this year. In January, general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan publicly stated that Aiyuk had played his final downs for San Francisco.

Aiyuk is currently two years into a four-year, $120 million extension signed in 2024, though Spotrac reports the 2026 financial guarantees were eliminated through a subsequent settlement. With the June 1 league deadline now passed, the 49ers can trade or cut Aiyuk while spreading the remaining dead money across the next two seasons. A outright release would immediately free up roughly $20 million in salary cap space, though management has remained hesitant to let a highly productive player leave for free. Over his first four seasons, Aiyuk recorded 20 touchdowns, highlighted by a 2023 campaign where he hauled in 75 receptions for 1,342 yards to help guide San Francisco to the Super Bowl.
