The Boston Celtics have signed ex-NY Knicks center Mitchell Robinson to a three-year, $47.4 million contract.

The agreement, which cannot become official until the NBA’s free agency moratorium ends, includes a player option for the third season. Robinson arrives in Boston after helping the New York Knicks capture the 2026 NBA championship, ending an eight-year run with the franchise that drafted him in the second round in 2018.

Robinson, 28, gives the Celtics a proven rim protector and one of the league’s premier offensive rebounders. He averaged 5.7 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 60 regular-season games last season while shooting better than 72% from the field. During New York’s championship postseason, he provided valuable minutes off the bench, averaging 4.8 points and 5.5 rebounds while supplying the physical presence and interior defense that became a key part of the club’s title run.

For the Knicks, Robinson’s departure closes the chapter on one of the franchise’s longest-tenured players and a fan favorite who developed from a raw prospect into a cornerstone defensive contributor. His exit leaves New York with a notable void behind starting center Karl-Anthony Towns as the defending champions prepare to reshape their frontcourt for another title defense. Financial considerations reportedly played a role in the Knicks’ decision not to match Boston’s offer, allowing one of the Eastern Conference’s fiercest rivals to secure an important free-agent addition.
