Repair work has still not been done on the sharp corner coming down Rabbit Ears Pass, where a semi-truck took out the side barriers and guardrails on July 17, 2025. It’s near Mile Marker 141 on U.S. Highway 40 at the Timbers Village turnoff. Neighbors have been reaching out to CDOT, local media, and state politicians. Senator Dylan Roberts says he asked CDOT for an update. He says he received a response from Emily Haddaway, the CDOT legislative liaison.

She said four contractor bids have come in to get the side guardrails and barriers rebuilt, ranging from $175-268K. The lowest bidder has been selected and CDOT is working with the contractor to schedule delivery. She added that construction on the sharp downhill corner is expected to happen this season, before winter.”
