Routt County is rescinding Stage 1 Fire Restrictions at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1.  It was a unanimous vote by Routt County Commissioners Tuesday. The city of Steamboat Springs is also lifting Stage 1 Fire Restrictions. The Routt National Forest and neighboring counties are also rescinding their remaining fire restrictions.

The Routt County delinquent property tax list is now posted on the Steamboat Radio website, on the Local News tab under Public Notices. The Moffat County Sheriff’s Office says there will be Zero Tolerance for anyone who operates an unlicensed ATV or UTV, or if the operator is unlicensed. The message is, “Know the law. Be responsible. Be licensed. Be properly registered.” Those in violation could get a citation or other enforcement actions.

The days are getting shorter, which means it is getting darker earlier. Colorado Department of Transportation and Colorado State Patrol is sending a reminder to be very aware of pedestrians, especially as the sun sets. Nearly 60% of pedestrian deaths in Colorado occurred during the fall and winter months, over the past five years.

October is National Pedestrian Safety Month. CDOT is reminding drivers to slow down, stay alert, and expect pedestrians.

The Lions Club in Steamboat Springs presented a $5,500 check to First Impressions of Routt County on Tuesday. It will be used to help pay for free developmental screenings for children ages three to five years old in the community. Here’s Meaghan Franges, Executive Director of First Impressions.

“This is really amazing because not only does it help us identify children at an early age to get the support that they need, but providing this service allows our childcare programs to get more points for their quality rating, which then means they can also receive more grant funding, so it’s really a win-win.”

The screenings include vision, hearing, dental screenings and developmental milestones, from licensed service providers like occupational therapists and speech pathologists, at all of the licensed childcare programs in Routt County.

Bill Crosby with the Lions Club writes, “The Steamboat Ski Town Lions Club (our chapter was founded in 1923) works to support those in need in our community, focusing on youth vision programs, along with other needs as requested by the community.  Our donation to First Impressions is an example of how we work to support community needs.  We provide vision support to the community through our eyeglasses program, which is supported by Dr. Helm’s office.  We receive requests for help from school teachers, counsellors and nurses throughout Routt County, and for adults, we receive requests for help from Lift Up.  We’ve provided these services for many, many years and hold annual fundraisers to support our giving.”

Robbie Wodnik is representing Steamboat Springs on Team USA at the UCI Mountain Bike Enduro World Championships. The event is Oct. 16-18 in Italy. Wodnik is racing in the Men’s Juniors category, against mountain bikers from all over the world. He is a junior at Steamboat Springs High School. He also rides for SSWSC for both Enduro and the Steamboat Springs High School Mountain Bike team.

UCI is Union Cycliste Internationale. It’s the worldwide governing body for the sport of cycling.

From USA Cycling: “Enduro is a mix between a gravity event and an endurance event, linking technical downhill trails with flat and uphill sections typically found at a cross-country race. Enduro races can have anywhere from four to 10 stages spanning over a day or two. In these events, only the downhill sections are timed, but riders are required to pedal to each stage sometimes climbing steep terrain. A rider’s stage times are added together to create an overall time. Competitors typically choose bikes that allow for the bike-handling capabilities required of a downhill racer, but also don’t prohibit sustained climbing.”

In high school sports on Wednesday:

  • STEAMBOAT SAILORS GIRLS VOLLEYBALL Home vs. Summit at 6 p.m.
