Someone is stealing from vehicles on the south side of Steamboat. This is the Highway 40 corridor as you come into town, so the area of Rabbit Ears Pass, Haymaker, and South Routt. Police say most of the cars were unlocked. Someone is getting into the cars and stealing things. Steamboat Police says always lock your car and roll up the windows. Don’t leave anything of value in plain sight. Also keep your car doors locked because hungry bears like to get in them as well.

Steamboat Springs Police arrested 26-year-old Jake Hedrick of Steamboat Springs Wednesday. Hedrick was arrested on two Failure to Appear warrants for Revocation for Probation. Hedrick also missed an online court appearance Tuesday for a citation issued on July 5, in relation to allegedly spray painting red hearts throughout Steamboat Springs. Hedrick has a Pre-Trial Conference and Appearance on Bond scheduled in Routt County Combined Court on Aug. 4.

Routt County Commissioners have expressed concern about getting results back from testing for COVID-19 sooner. Routt County Public Health Medical Officer Dr. Brian Harrington says he’s surprised we’re still dealing with this issue since testing is key.

Dr. Harrington spoke of the need for a better organized national distribution and testing system. Commissioners spoke of the issue of each individual county being tasked to figure out what to do. Here’s Commissioner Tim Corrigan.

Work starts today on Highway 40 in Hayden to bring the curb ramps into compliance with Public Rights of Way Accessibility Guidelines. Some of the sidewalks, curbs and gutters will also be improved. It should last through late August.

Established or emerging artists are invited to apply to create a mural in downtown Steamboat. It’s part of the “All Arts” mural project to enhance downtown vitality. Apply through the Steamboat Creates website.

You can get into all 41 Colorado state parks for free on Monday, Aug. 3. It’s Colorado Day, and the 144th birthday of the state. Taking it one step further, all active duty military, veterans and National Guard have free admission to all state parks for the month of August. Here in Northwest Colorado, those would be Stagecoach Reservoir, Pearl Lake, and Steamboat Lake in North Routt, Yampa River State Park outside of Hayden, and Elkhead Reservoir outside of Craig.
