Steamboat Resort is opening even earlier. Christie Peak Express fires up for the season next Friday, Nov. 15. It’s the earliest opening in resort history. All season passes are valid. Lift tickets for the first week will be $50. Terrain includes 50 acres, 1,100 vertical feet, and 10 trails. Ski and snowboard lessons will be available. The Outlaw Mountain Coaster will be open as will Timber & Torch and Gondola Joe’s. The first 100 skiers and riders on Friday get free Smartwool socks and breakfast burritos.
A man from Craig has been found guilty of dealing meth and heroin. The three-day trial for 47-year-old Derek Kettle was in Routt County District Court. A jury found Kettle guilty of drug distribution charges. He was arrested in June of 2018 on a traffic stop on Rabbit Ears Pass. A drug sniffing dog with the Routt County Sheriff’s Office indicated there were drugs in the car. They found over 112 grams of meth and just under an ounce of heroin. Sentencing for Kettle is Jan. 23.
The body of a man from Centennial has been found in a remote area north of Hayden. 70-year-old Joseph Vultaggio didn’t get back to camp on time. Routt County Sheriff’s deputies were called to search for him in the California Park area. He was found about 100 yards from his vehicle. County Coroner Rob Ryg says the man died from natural causes, but an autopsy is still being done today.
Veterans Day is Monday. Colorado Parks and Wildlife is offering veterans and active-duty military members free admission to any of Colorado’s 41 state parks. Those parks in Northwest Colorado are Yampa River State Park, Stagecoach, Elkhead Reservoir, Pearl Lake and Steamboat Lake.
Free Coffee Friday is at Natural Grocers this morning. And Coffee with Council is until 9 a.m. today with Councilman Scott Ford. It is his 65th and final Coffee with Council as a councilman. It’s in the Crawford room at Centennial Hall.
