Four new cases of the COVID-19 virus were reported in Routt County on Friday. The latest were two female teenagers, and two more women, one in her 20s and one in her 50s. That’s 72 positive cases with nine in the last week, and ten cases for the month of June. Results weren’t released this weekend.

There is concern with the new surge in positive cases. Mo Demorat is the Director of the Routt County Office of Emergency Management. He says they’ll discuss today the possibility of re-opening the Emergency Operation Center.

Because of the new cases, Routt County Commissioners discussed hiring workers to help with testing and with contact tracing. Right now, there are 14 contact tracers and they are volunteers. Commissioners agreed Friday that the county should proceed with hiring new workers for temporary jobs on an hourly basis. Here’s Commissioner Doug Monger.

Routt County Commissioner Beth Melton says identifying possible cases through contact tracing is a positive for the community.

Routt County Commissioner meetings are now going to be held a little bit earlier each day, at 9:30 a.m. until noon, Monday through Friday. That’s starting today. Routt County Board of Health meetings are at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays.
