Numbers of COVID-19 cases continue to go up in Routt County.

That’s Routt County Epidemiologist Nicole Harty. 

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is reporting 390 total cases for the county as of Sunday. That's 104 cases of COVID-19 in a week, according to a local volunteer group that compiles the daily data from the state at The Red/Stay At Home Threshold set by the state is 89 cases in two weeks, and Routt County is now at 160 cases in two weeks. Public Health Director Roberta Smith says outbreaks are happening at schools, public gatherings and businesses.

Smith says the more interactions you have, the more chances you can get infected. No group gatherings, just stay with your family. Don’t go out if you don’t have to right now. If there are group gatherings or parties that are over the ten-person limit from two families, local law enforcement could get involved. Here’s Routt County Sheriff Garrett Wiggins.

Commissioner Doug Monger was disappointed that the county had to move to the High Risk level.

Commisioner Beth Melton says we all need to take personal responsibility.

Steamboat Springs High School is closed as is the new school in Hayden because of COVID cases. Routt County Public Health will have a testing clinic from 8-10 a.m. tomorrow morning at the Routt County Fairgrounds in Hayden. Schedule an appointment through the Public Health website.

Steamboat Ski Resort won’t open as scheduled on Saturday. Opening day has been delayed until Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Christmas Tree permits are now available, if you’re planning to cut down your own tree in the Medicine Bow or Routt National Forest. It’s easy… purchase the permit online at and put it on the dash of your car when you cut down your tree. Permits are $10. When you buy it online, you’ll find out where you can and can’t cut down a tree. For example, no tree cutting in the Fish Creek Falls area, or at Steamboat Resort.
