Work starts this week along Butcherknife Creek in the old town district of Steamboat Springs. A floodplain will be constructed and pedestrian improvements made. Oak Street between 6th and 7th will be closed but the intersections will stay open. The road should re-open by Halloween.

The Rocky Mountain Bull Bash had top pro bullriders thrilling the crowd at Romick Rodeo Arena Sunday night. Colten Fritzlan from Rifle had the winning ride on a bull named Stage Fright.

Second place went to Keenan Hayes from Hayden who rode a bull named Burnout, which had never been defeated before, but has now.

The Steamboat Hockey Classic is coming up. It’s Sept. 12-14 this year, instead of in the spring. Top NHL and NWHL players will be in Steamboat for a charity hockey game and then a golf tournament. Kerry Shea is organizing the event.

Register for the hockey game, or that big golf tournament at Haymaker, at  All of the money raised benefits the Steamboat Stampede Youth Hockey Association.

The Navigator Awards are this Friday night, presented by the Steamboat Springs Chamber and the Steamboat Pilot & Today. Kerry Shea is receiving the honor of Business Leader of the Year. Mountain Tap Brewery is the Business of the Year. Michael Guerrero from The Laundry is the Service Excellence Professional of the Year. And Cole Hewitt from Yampa Valley Bank is the Young Professional of the Year. The Navigator awards are Friday night at the Steamboat Grand. The Steamboat Sailor football team won their first game of the season, at home Friday night against Manual. The final score was 33-26. The Sailors are at home again this Friday night, against Cedaredge at 7 p.m. Moffat County has their first game of the season next Friday, against Summit in Frisco. Soroco has a home game at 1 p.m. next Saturday against Sangre De Cristo. Hayden also plays next Saturday against Justice High School in Boulder County and that game will be played at Boulder High School.
