Routt County has another new case of the COVID-19 virus, which means five in five days. It’s another female teenager who was identified through contact tracing with the other 18-year-old female who tested positive earlier this week. They are under isolation orders, as are their families and other close contacts. Kari Ladrow is the Director of Routt County Public Health. She says the teenagers and those in their 20s struggle more with the concept of being at home, not hanging out with friends, and not having dinner parties.

Another challenge is visitors to the community, and those residents who leave the Yampa Valley and come back. Two of the other recent cases were from Routt County residents who went out of state and contracted the virus, and then came home. Commissioner Beth Melton says staying safe is important whether you are here, or traveling.

One other discussion by the commissioners Wednesday was that they have been contacted a lot about wearing masks, and especially those employees working in a kitchen or restaurant. This is a requirement from the governor, and not a local order. Here’s Commissioner Tim Corrigan.

Routt County Public Health officials say 100 people signed up for community testing yesterday. 38 restaurant staff in Steamboat were just tested. Today, employees from the ski resort will all be tested. Officials add that typically, 95 percent of those tested don’t have symptoms of the virus.

There are now 68 positive cases of the COVID-19 virus in Routt County with five of those active.

The grand marshals of the Red, White, and Blue Drive-through on the 4th of July will be Routt County Public Health Director Kari Ladrow, Routt County Medical Officer, Dr. Brian Harrington, and Routt County Emergency Operations Director Mo Demorat. The map of the route is on our Facebook page.
