More pot shops could be coming to Steamboat. City Council approved first reading of a zoning ordinance that would allow more retail shops that sell marijuana around Steamboat, including in the downtown area and near Steamboat Resort. The first reading of the ordinance passed 4-3. It is expected to be before council for a second reading later this month.
Hayden Town Council has drafted a new ordinance that would allow pot shops in the town. Council gave unanimous approval for an ordinance that would create an application process for aspiring dispensary owners. New dispensaries would be approved or denied on a case-by-case basis. One person plans to apply for a pot shop on a plot of land near Yampa Valley Regional Airport.
Local non-profits can apply to get a gondola cabin to use for fundraising. The old gondola is being replaced and all of the cars have been removed. Applications are due by May 23. Apply at www.Steamboat.com/gondolarequest. Nonprofits must be a 501©3 and be located in Routt County. And you have to be able to move the gondola cabin if you get one.
Phase II of the Arnold Barn is getting started. Duckels Construction will be adding trails, interpretative signs, a pedestrian crosswalk and parking pull-out area. It will be easier for the public to access the historic Arnold Barn, in its new location at the intersection of Mt. Werner Road and Mt. Werner Circle. Work should be complete by early July.
Two prescribed burns are starting Monday in Moffat County. Both burns are on BLM lands, one near the Little Snake River and the other in the Browns Park area. The fires will only happen if conditions are safe.
Part of Routt National Forest on Buffalo Pass will be closed for a month, starting next Wednesday. The Forest Service is closing two trails because it is elk calving season. The area includes the Flash of Gold and BTR trails. The restricted area is 355 acres of National Forest System land, about two miles northeast of Steamboat Springs. Signs will be posted. The dates are May 15 through June 15.
The practice facility at Haymaker Golf Course opens this Friday. That’s the driving range, or the putting green. The full championships course should be ready next Wednesday, May 15. The golf shop is open now.
