Routt County has 25 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. That’s the largest single-day total of COVID-19 cases to date in Routt County. This is according to data released from Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. According to current CDPHE statistics, the one-week total of cases in Routt County is at 118 with a two-week total at 200 for a combined total of 443 cases. Three people have been hospitalized.

Routt County Public Health met Wednesday to discuss the high numbers of COVID in the community and the move tomorrow evening to the Red/Severe Risk level as ordered by the state. Commissioner Beth Melton said she spoke to a state official about why they’ve ordered the move now.

Steamboat Ski Area has delayed opening until Dec. 1. Loryn Duke with the resort says it’s mainly because the mountain needs snow.

Duke says the resort is working with city, county, and state officials to open safely.

Public Health Nurse Brooke Maxwell said 92 cases in one week shows community spread, which means people don’t know where they got it.

Another reminder from public health is to answer your phone. Contact tracers are leaving messages for people and not getting called back. And if they do call, please be polite and work with them.

With the new Red Level, offices in Steamboat Springs City Hall and Centennial Hall, as well as Parks and Rec will be closed to the general public as of this evening. Howelsen Ice Arena opens Monday by reservation only for public skate and Stick & Puck for ten people or less per session.

The body of a man was found in his camper near Flaming Gorge Reservoir, in Wyoming. Deputies from the Sweetwater Sheriff’s Office thinks the body had been there for several months and the death does not seem suspicious. They are asking for help if anyone has any information.

The U.S. Snowboard Team has been announced and Steamboat is well represented. Siblings Taylor and Arielle Gold are on the Pro Halfpipe Team. Mick Dierdorff is on the SnowboardCross Team. Their first competition is scheduled to be a halfpipe at Copper Mountain in mid-December, pending local and state approval.

From Routt County Public Health…Keep your Thanksgiving plans to household members. No out-of-town guests this year. Please remember to “Keep it Small, Routt County.” Help make COVID stop with you.
