Work has begun on an underpass at Pine Grove Road and Lincoln Ave. The Fish Creek underpass will make it safer for cyclists and pedestrians to go from the Core Trail, under the highway. It’s a $1.1 million project funded by money from the city accommodations tax, and grant funding from Colorado Department of Transportation and Colorado Parks and Wildlife. The 700-foot path under Lincoln Avenue should be open to the public in November.
The man who died in Saturday’s Steamboat Stinger bike race has been identified. 45-year-old Andrew Balika was from Littleton. Routt County Coroner Rob Ryg says Balika died from a heart attack.
The 105th Routt County Fair continues in Hayden. The 4-H Dog Show and English Horse Show is this morning. Gymkhana is at noon. There’s a dance tonight for 4-H and FFA members. The Open Horse Show helped kick things off for the fair, with 96 competitors.
If you’ve never been to a county fair, you can take a guided tour of the Routt County Fair this Thursday. It’s being offered as a group effort with the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council and the Community Agriculture Alliance, which is run by Michele Meyer.
It costs $20 but that includes a ride from the Steamboat Springs Community Center. It’s at 3:30 this Thursday. Sign up at www.YVSC.org
Opera Steamboat presents Hansel and Gretel tonight, as part of their 2019 Summer Festival. It’s family friendly with some good audience participation for the kids. It starts at 7 p.m. on the stage at the Steamboat Christian Center. Tickets are available at www.OperaSteamboat.org
Registration is underway for the winter programs for Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. Ski Mountaineering has been added to the list for skiers ages 15 to 21. All winter programs are available at www.SSWSC.org
