A 17-year-old runaway teenager jumped in the Yampa River Monday, trying to escape police. They had a report of a suspicious person near a dumpster downtown. Officers talked to the teen and got his name and information, and then found out his parents had reported him missing two months ago from California. They asked him to return with them to the police department and that’s when he took off and ran to the Yampa River and jumped in. Police say the teen realized it was running fast and very cold, so he came back to shore. He was taken to the hospital, and eventually a family friend who lives in Colorado picked up him to reunite him with his parents.
