Routt County Commissioners have declared that May is Older Americans Month. The vote was unanimous at their meeting today.
Heather Jones from the Area Agency on Aging in NW Colorado and Catherine Lykken, Former Director of Routt County Human Services, commented on the importance of showing appreciation for the older Routt County community members. Commissioner Chair Tim Corrigan added that he is part of the Older Americans demographic.
“We certainly need to take the time to celebrate our Older Americans and Older Coloradoans and their contributions to our communities,” said Heather Jones, Director from the Area Agency on Aging. “They play a vital role in sharing their experiences and knowledge that help shape current and future decisions. Many of our older adults are actively engaged in their communities, which fosters building strong and resilient communities. The Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Colorado is proud to collaborate with local providers (some who are present today) to help older adults maintain dignity, health, and independence.”
The proclamation states:
“A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF MAY OLDER AMERICANS MONTH WHEREAS, Routt County includes a growing number of older Americans who have built resilience and strength over their lives through successes and difficulties;
and WHEREAS, Routt County benefits when people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds are included and encouraged to share their successes and stories of resilience;
