Update Tuesday 4:30 p.m. June 8, 2021

The North Fork Fire isn’t over but good progress is being made. Monday saw lots of air support with helicopters and air tankers using water and fire retardant on the fire. That slowed it down. Today, two 20-person crews hiked into the fire. They are on the ground working on supression and getting a fire line in place.

Here’s more from the North Fork Fire Public Information Officer Aaron Voos:

A fire is burning just north of the stateline in Routt County, about two miles into Wyoming. It was started by lightning. Airtankers and helicopters have been coming into Routt County to refuel and get water. The dispatch center in Casper, Wyo., is reporting the fire has burned 15-20 acres in a difficult spot to access to they don’t have anyone on the ground yet. The fire is actively burning in a beetle-kill area.

Here is more from Bill Roach, the Dispatch Center Manager in Casper.
