Routt County Riders have set up a Bike Match program.
That’s Michael Rochon with Routt County Riders. There is a request form on their website if you need a bike, or you can be recommended through Boys & Girls Club, Partners in Routt County, or other non-profits working with Routt County Riders. If you have some bikes that you’d like to donate, that are safe for kids to ride and don’t need to have too much work done to them, email Michael@RouttCountyRiders.org and he’ll help.
You can also support the program by joining Routt County Riders with a family membership. Membership Levels

Bike Match Shifts into Action in Routt County
Routt County Riders, the Steamboat Springs-based cycling advocacy organization, recently hired a Community Outreach Program Manager, Matthew Rochon, to develop and implement its Bike Match program. The program, made possible through generous contributions from the Craig-Scheckman Family Foundation and the Yampa Valley Community Foundation, is intended to match bikes to riders in the community that might not otherwise have the means to take advantage of all the benefits cycling offers and enjoy many of the opportunities to cycle in Routt County.
The Bike Match program will attempt to tackle several different cycling needs of the community. There are adults who would like to run errands or commute to work on their bicycles, kids who use their bicycles for a few years and then outgrow them, those that enjoy family outings on the Core Trail, and even competitive athletes who cannot afford the higher-end cycles needed to compete safely.
Getting on the list to be matched for a bicycle is easy. Simply go to and complete the Bike Match Request Form. RCR will build a list of potential recipients and begin to work matches. Of course, not all requests can be filled as they are dependent on donations and community support, but there are many in the community who have already reached out about donating bicycles.
According to Rochon, “Since we don’t have unlimited storage and maintenance capacity, the first step is to identify the members of the community who need help getting a bicycle. To do this, RCR is working closely with the Boys and Girls Club of Steamboat Springs and the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, but would also like to get the word out to those that may not be a part of those organizations.” Once RCR has a list of bicycle requests, it will make the information available to those who wish to donate a bicycle or get involved in another way. In addition to bikes, the Bike Match program needs bike parts, volunteer mechanics, and eventually will need storage and maintenance space as the program grows. Those wishing to get involved should reach out to matthew@routtcountyriders.org
