A trailer with a smooth drum roller on it, being pulled by a Routt County Road and Bridge dump truck, rolled at Stehley Park near Butcherknife Trail on Tuesday. Routt County says the equipment shifted on the trailer. It became unbalanced and tipped over to the right. Steamboat Police say it happened just before 9 a.m. and there weren’t any injuries. One of the neighbors on Park Ave. heard it.
The fence is damaged along the park there. Routt County Road and Bridge will be making those repairs. Damage to the asphalt at the park has already been patched up.
Here is more from Ray DuBois, the director of Routt County Public Works.
On Tuesday morning, a Routt County Road and Bridge dump truck was pulling an equipment trailer with a smooth drum roller compactor on board. As the truck rounded the sharp corner to the left at Stehley Park, it appears the piece of equipment shifted to the right on the trailer, causing the trailer to become unbalanced resulting in the trailer and equipment to tip over on the right side. The roller compactor remained secured to the trailer, and both the trailer and equipment came to rest off the right edge of the city street. The incident caused minor damage to the asphalt pavement and substantial damage to a couple of sections of the round rail wood fence at the park.
The Routt County Assistant Road & Bridge Foreman, who was in charge of the project requiring the use of the roller compactor that day, has been in contact with the city’s Parks and Recreation Department to coordinate the repairs to the fence. Pending approval by the city, the fence repairs will be performed by the Routt County Road and Bridge crew. The damage to the asphalt street has been patched by the Routt County Road and Bridge crew.
No injuries were sustained in the accident, and the only equipment damage was a broken side view mirror on the roller and damage to the trailer hitch on the dump truck.
