Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue is close to putting out the Elk Run Fire, which started Friday afternoon. It could be seen from Steamboat. It’s about seven miles north of Highway 40 and Milner, on Slippery Sides Mountain, burning in steep and heavy timber. Here’s Steamboat Fire Marshal Doug Shaffer.
Shaffer says there is a 20-person hand crew from the Morgan Creek Fire helping them put it out. Plus a couple of bulldozers from Wolf Mountain Ranch started helping right away on Friday. Shaffer says it has burned three to four acres. They are putting out any hot spots that they find right now and hope to have it wrapped up by today or Monday.
