A large black bear was shot and killed last night, at a home in the Tamarack Drive area of Steamboat Springs. Just before midnight Monday, Colorado Parks and Wildlife was called to a home where they said there was a large bear in the house. The garage door had been left open. The bear came into the garage and then went into the house from an inside door that was closed and latched. Here’s Josh Dilley with CPW.
A CPW officer was on another bear call nearby and was able to come straight over. He had to get a ladder to climb up to the second story deck to eventually go in and get the front door open but the bear still wouldn’t leave.
Dilley emphasized that the bear was aggressive to the officer and in an occupied dwelling. He added that it is always a difficult decision for the officers to euthanize a bear but human health and safety is still paramount.
