
An emergency disaster drill was held in Routt County all day Wednesday. Local, state, and federal agencies were involved in the exercise at the Emergency Operations Center on the lower level of the county jail building.
The emergency was a massive winter storm with six feet of snow that shut down roads and all communication.
Mo Demorat is the director of the Routt County Office of Emergency Management. He says it is his job to make sure the county is prepared with all corresponding agencies to respond to all types of different emergencies.
Demorat and the Routt County Office of Emergency Management have been working on the exercise since March. About 50 people were involved, both in person and online.
Moffat County was invited to join in the exercise but was unable to gather enough people to participate.
Steamboat Radio/KRAI News Director Shannon Lukens was asked to be the local media on-site to simulate getting news updates out as quickly as possible, through social media and on the air.
