Dakota Dolan and Winn Cowman are with Yampa Valley Sustainability Council.
A new year-round area for recycles has been set up by Yampa Valley Sustainability Council. It’s at 1801 Lincoln Avenue, where Windemere Garden Center used to be. Here’s Winn Cowman, the Waste Diversion Director with Yampa Valley Sustainability Council.
The Yampa Valley Recycles Depot is for hard-to-recycle items, such as:
- Electronics
- Lightbulbs
- Ballasts
- Batteries
- Mattresses/Box Springs
- Ink Printer Cartridges
There is a fee and that information is on their website at YVSC.org.
Right now, the recycle center is open from noon to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, starting Dec. 1.
YVSC is partnering with several unique vendors to transport and breakdown the items brought to the new facility. Blue Star Recyclers based in Denver provides electronic recycling services and has a mission of creating jobs for individuals with autism and other disabilities. Spring Back Colorado in Commerce City breaks down mattresses and builds up lives, providing employment opportunities for the disenfranchised while diverting a significant amount of waste from our area landfills.
The trial hard-to-recycle program is a partnership between the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council, Routt County, and the City of Steamboat Springs.
