Steamboat’s Mick Dierdorff is headed to his second Olympics, when he competes in Beijing in February. The Steamboat native competes in SnowboardCross. The best World Cup result he has had all season was on the course in Beijing. The hard part is that no spectators are allowed.

Jasper Good in Nordic Combined

“I am incredibly honored and excited to be named to the 2022 U.S. Olympic Team. Representing Team USA at this Games means even more to me as a member of the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program (WCAP). The support and camaraderie I have gained from WCAP have helped me reach new levels. It will be an honor to represent the U.S. with this added factor. I am really excited about how much progression our team has made and can’t wait to perform with my team in Beijing!”

Taylor Fletcher in Nordic combined

“Getting named to my fourth Olympic team after winning the Olympic Trials is a big motivation for me. As the veteran athlete of the U.S. Nordic Combined Olympic Team, I want to make the most of this Olympics with my best results. Knowing that my spot is secure will allow me to focus on training and competition to make sure I am in the best form going into Beijing 2022. The Olympics are always a big focus and have been since I started the sport many many years ago. I feel confident I can go there and have my best results yet. We will have a young team but a team for the future, which is very exciting. Look out for nordic combined in the coming weeks!”

Taylor Gold in Snowboard Halfpipe

“I’m very stoked to make the Olympic Team again and especially to do it with some of the tricks and lines that originally drew me to snowboarding. Halfpipe riding is my art form and going in for my second time with more years under my belt, I feel like I’ve been able to develop my style and become the rider that I’ve always wanted to be. I’m grateful for the opportunity to express myself and what I love about snowboarding to the world.”

  • Wednesday, February 9 – Men’s and Women’s Snowboard Halfpipe Qualifiers and Women’s Snowboardcross Qualifiers and Finals
  • Friday, February 11 – Men’s Snowboard Halfpipe Finals

“I’m insanely grateful and excited to be part of this Olympic Team. A lot of work, time, and emotion has been put into this and I’m so stoked this childhood dream is actually happening! None of this would be possible without my parents, friends, and coaches sticking by my side through the good in the bad. See you all in China!”
– Decker Dean

Steamboat will celebrate its many Olympic athletes at a community celebration. It’s from 5-6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5, at Howelsen Hill. The athletes competing in Beijing will not be in attendance, but there will be video interviews with the local athletes. Many of Steamboat’s past Olympians will be at the celebration, Steamboat Springs has 96 Olympians and counting which is more Winter Olympians than any other town in the United States.  There will be a flag parade of nations, the lighting of the Olympian Cauldron, plus cupcakes and a dance party. Everyone is invited. The event is held in conjunction with Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, the City of Steamboat Springs, the Steamboat Springs Chamber, and the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation.
