The chairlifts close at Steamboat Resort on Sunday, April 10, but uphill access is still available to uphill passholders. But only one designated route is open. That’s because of end-of-season maintenance and construction. The route starts at Right of Way next to the T-Bar and heads up to the base of Thunderhead, behind the lift terminal via Why Not, and then up Vagabond to the top of Thunderhead. All other normal routes will not be safe because of heavy vehicle traffic.

Here are more details from Steamboat Resort.
Uphill Access After Closing Day
Uphill access at Steamboat Ski Resort will be available to Uphill passholders after the resort closes for the season on April 10. Due to regular end of season maintenance work and Full Steam Ahead construction, uphill users will need to stick to one specific route this year: starting at Right of Way adjacent to T-Bar, up to the base of Thunderhead lift via Why Not to Vagabond and then ascending Vagabond to the top of Thunderhead lift.
The usual uphill routes (Vogue, Jess’s Cut off and Heavenly Daze) will not be safe due to heavy vehicle usage for construction and snow removal and therefore will not be accessible to uphill users this spring.
It is extremely important all uphill users know the open route, obey all closures, stay out of the way of snowcats and other operating machinery, and be aware they may encounter plowed out road crossings as the resort will have more snow plowing operations and heavy equipment operating this spring due to construction.
If a skier or snowboarder does not already have an Uphill Pass and would like to purchase one for the spring season they can go online at steamboat.com/uphill to sign waivers and pay $29 if they have an Ikon or Steamboat pass, or $49 for non-passholders. A portion of the uphill pass proceeds are donated to Routt County Search and Rescue.
