
Moose are in Routt County and the Steamboat Springs community, but now, they’re becoming more prevalent in Moffat County.

There has been a small population of moose in the Black Mountain area. But lately, there are more because they are getting relocated there. Here’s Bill de Vergie, Area 6 Wildlife Manager, based in Meeker.

Some of the moose transported to Moffat County were a mother and her calf when the calf was stuck in a basement of a foundation of a house in Grand County. It happened after the East Troublesome Fire.

Also last summer, a moose that was found in the Vail parking garage was relocated to Northwest Colorado.
Black Mountain is about 21 miles north northeast of the City of Craig, in Moffat County. Black Mountain is also the highest point in Moffat County with the peak in Routt National Forest at 10,865 feet.
