The longtime linked Social Studies classes at Steamboat Springs High School won’t be linked anymore, after 20 years of teaching the history and literature classes that way. It’s because of scheduling, according to Principal Rick Elertson. Deirdre Boyd has been teaching combined 10th grade American studies classes, which is American History and American Literature, for 21 years.
The change also affects team teaching for 11th grade WHisL, which is World History and World Literature.
Principal Rick Elertson says unlinking the classes will open up the schedule so kids can take more AP classes, or classes up at CMC.
Boyd says the teachers are against the unlinking of the classes. Elertson agrees that it isn’t being welcomed by all staff.
Boyd says it’s sad the program is ending.
The eight teachers affected will have to re-do all curriculum for their classes for next year. The district has offered $40 an hour compensation to complete the work.
