The Mad Creek Bridge in Routt County is out. It’s upside down and in the river. A new bridge will be designed, approved, and funded and then built. The Forest Service folks think that won’t be until at least next year next year.
Republican candidates for House District 26 in the Colorado House of Representatives are having a debate Tuesday. Savannah Wolfson is from Oak Creek and Glenn Lowe is from Eagle County. Both have to primary to see who gets on the ballot. It’s at 6:30 Tuesday night, May 24, at the Hayden Center and all are invited. The debate is hosted by the Routt County Republicans. There is not a primary for the Democratic candidate in HD26. Meghan Lukens from Steamboat Springs is automatically on the ballot in November.
Steamboat Resort is auctioning off some chairlifts from the Christie III chair and a few cabins from the gondola, including the medical gondola cabin. They’ll be available through a private auction which starts this morning and ends Sunday night at 8 p.m. If you win, you have to pick up the gondola car or chair from 9 a.m. to noon on June 11 in the Meadows parking lot.
An Alcohol Server Training course is from 10 a.m. to noon Monday in the Citizen’s Meeting Room at 137 10th Street in Steamboat. It’s for owners, managers, servers, bartenders, special event volunteers and anyone else who serves alcohol. The cost is $25.
Then Monday night, there is a free class also for Colorado Responsible Alcohol Vendor Training. It’s at 5:30 p.m. in the Hayden Center and everyone is invited. No registration; just show up.
In Craig tonight, there is a talk on the dangers of fentanyl and opioids in the community. It’s at 6:30 p.m. in the pavilion at the Moffat County Fairgrounds.
Also tonight in Craig, it’s the annual Dude Dent Athletics Awards banquet where the top athletes from Moffat County High School will be honored.
In the Moffat County School District, today is the last day for kindergarteners. The last day of school for all other students in Moffat County is this Thursday. Same for Hayden. Graduation for the Moffat County Class of 2022 is at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 28, in the high school gymnasium.
The Steamboat Class of 2022 is graduating at the same time, this coming Saturday, at Gardner Field. The last day of school for Steamboat kids is June 3.
Soroco kids graduate at 11 a.m. this Saturday and their last day of school is June 2.
The Moffat County Library wants your help in designing a new sign. It’s a contest that starts today and runs through the end of June. The new sign will replace the old one in front of the library. Oak Creek Library hosted Bicycle Tune-Up day Saturday. One young cyclist from Oak Creek received a refurbished bike courtesy of Routt County Riders. Then he checked out a book from the library called, “Mountain Biking: The Ultimate Guide to Extreme Sports.”
