STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. – The Steamboat Springs Education Foundation (SSEF) awarded $5.6 million ($5,690,867) to Steamboat Springs School District (SSSD) at the board meeting on May 18, 2022—an increase of $1.4 million over the 2021-2022 grant of $4,261,506. A record $7 million was awarded to public schools and school-based programming in Routt County. “The Education Fund grant funds 13% of our entire General Fund budgeted expenditures. “Through a half-cent sales tax, this voter-approved school funding source is a testament to our community commitment to education,” said Stephanie Juneau, director of finance for Steamboat Springs School District.
SSSD will dedicate the majority of the $3,930,139 million to student-facing staff/teaching positions, including 45 employees at SSSD: 18 classroom teachers, instructional coaches, emerging bilingual teachers, translators, GT teachers, mental health professionals, interventionists, special education teachers, special education paraprofessionals, positions at the Steamboat Springs High School supporting career and college readiness, and another supporting credit recovery. “In Steamboat schools, our people are our greatest assets. Our goal is not simply to fill children with knowledge. We want to light their fires for learning, use their curiosity as kindling, and give them opportunities to become the best versions of themselves,” said Jay Hamric SSSD director of teaching and learning. “By adding additional staff, we are able to grow our programming and increase access for all students. We are incredibly fortunate to have this resource and funding from our community. Our children reap the benefits of additional caring adults to enrich and extend their education.”
