Two people died Saturday night in an accident just west of Hayden. 54-year-old Mark O’Donnell and his son Kyle O’Donnell, who is in his mid-20s, were from Woodland Park, which is near Colorado Springs. Colorado State Patrol says both were wearing their seatbelts. They had a dog with them which was apparently taken to a veterinarian in Craig. CSP says the accident happened when a Ford F-350 was headed west, but in the eastbound lane on Hwy 40. It was a head-on collision. There were three people in that truck. The driver was a 24-year-old man from Oklahoma who sustained moderate injuries. A 22-year-old female passenger from Wisconsin had serious injuries. They were both wearing their seatbelts. A third passenger was a 21-year-old male from Oklahoma who had minor injuries and was not wearing a seatbelt. Colorado State Patrol says excessive speed is suspected but no alcohol or drugs were involved. The accident is under investigation before charges will be filed.
