A woman who went tubing on the Yampa River late Monday afternoon flipped her tube and was yelling for help. First responders were called and were quickly staged at various points down the river to watch for the missing tuber. She managed to get out of the river, and was helped by a woman walking by. They walked down to the C-Hole at the library. She was checked out by the local ambulance crew. Capt. Michael Arce with Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue was in charge at the scene. He said she is OK, but she was cold. He said he told her she needed a life vest.

The water temperature on the Yampa River Monday was 53 degrees.

Wild horses in the Piceance-East Douglas Herd Management Area of Rio Blanco County are going to be captured starting this Thursday. The Bureau of Land Management says the population of the herd is 1,385 right now. The right management level for the herd is 135 to 235 wild horses. Bait trap stations start this week, which is where horses are drawn in by food and water. Then drive-trap gather operations with horseback riders and helicopters will start around July 15. The horses will be taken to a BLM wild horse facility in Utah to be adopted, sold, or to receive long-term care in an off-range pasture.

A BLM wild horse virtual information meeting on this gather is scheduled for June 15 at 5:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time. Please visit https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/2003177/510 for information on how to register.

The hazy, smoky skies we are seeing in Northwest Colorado are from a fire in Arizona. The National Weather Service says smoke is driving in from the Pipeline Fire near Flagstaff. It started Sunday morning.

A downed power line caused a small grass fire along Hwy 40 in Grand County Monday afternoon. The Grand County Sheriff’s Office was able to quickly stop the spread and keep the highway open.

Water is almost always draining through the alley between Oak and Pine, where the overflow parking is for Old Town Hot Springs. It then runs through the employee parking lot for the post office, down 3rd, and then through the 4-way stop behind the post office. Jon Snyder is the Public Works Director for the City of Steamboat Springs. He says it is groundwater drainage from an illegal sump pump that was installed in a house there. He says the City is working with the homeowners on a solution to the illegal sump pump discharge, adding that it is destroying some public infrastructure in the alley and down 3rd Street.

The vaccination bus is at the Stockbridge Transit Center in Steamboat today and tomorrow. This is for flu and COVID vaccines. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Vaccines are free. You don’t need ID or insurance. The vaccine bus will be back on Friday, June 24, in the Walmart parking lot in Steamboat.

A group of 15 cyclists from Western Kentucky University are riding through Northwest Colorado today, headed to Steamboat. The group has biked 1,110 miles so far, to raise awareness to Alzheimer’s. Last night, they were treated to pizza and a place to stay at the Craig Christian Church. From 3-5 p.m. this afternoon, they’re at the Casey’s Pond Memory Care Center in STeamboat. You are welcome to join for some live music, and food from local food trucks. The group is hoping to raise $150,000 this summer for Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month.
