Livestock producers are invited to a meeting in Jackson County hosted by the North Park Stockgrowers this Monday. Adam VanValkenburg is the president of the North Park group.
“We are going to have leaders from the US Fish and Wildlife Service along with the wildlife services conflict reduction specialists and we are going to be discussing further non-lethal options for hazing wolves. And we are also going to be discussing how compensation is going to be delivered.”
The meeting is titled, “Wolves in North Park Under Federal Management.” Those who go will hear from federal wildlife managers who are charged with managing wolves and reducing conflicts with livestock in North Park. Concerns with current resources will also be discussed. The Western Landowners Alliance will also be there. The Western Landowners Alliance says they have four Cs of Conflict Reduction. Those are Conflict Prevention, Control, Compensation and Collaboration.
Once again, the meeting is only for livestock producers. It’s at the Wattenburg Center at the Jackson County Fairgrounds in Walden. There will a ranch tour after the meeting. The address of the meeting is 686 County Road 42, Walden, Colo., 80480. Featured speakers are:

Governor Polis has appointed Stephen Wayne Laramore of Craig to serve on the statewide Coal Mine Board of Examiners. His term starts July 1. The governor also reappointed David Hunter of Steamboat Springs to the Passenger Tramway Safety Board. His term starts June 30. Terms for both men run through 2026.
Hayden Town Council meets tonight. Council will consider for approval an ordinance for an updated Official Town Zoning Map. The meeting in Hayden starts at 7:30 p.m.
The Bustang Outrider has a schedule change. It will now leave the Craig Transit Center at 6:45 a.m. each morning. It starts in Craig and heads through Steamboat, Winter Park, and on into Union Station in Denver. Find out more at RideBustang.com
The City of Steamboat Springs hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the expansion at Howelsen Ice Complex in Steamboat. The new 4,200 square foot expansion includes second-floor viewing windows and a concession area, new restrooms and an office. Rink manager Dmitry Chase said that’s not all.
“Fantastic new amenity, particularly the women’s locker room. We’ve been striving for something like this to create a little bit more equity between sexes.”
A new multi-purpose room will allow for licensed school-age childcare programming in the fall. Chase says he hopes the next phase at the rink is a second sheet of ice.
The Steamboat Springs Swim team has three swimmers competing in the CSI qualifying meet in Thornton this weekend. That would be Ivy Ladrow, Zoe Anfang, and Oliver Catlett. The Steamboat swimmers just got home from Aspen, where the Steamboat girls won the meet among the five Western Slope teams in attendance.
The Craig swim meet is this Saturday. It’s a smaller meet, with three teams: Craig, Rangely, and Steamboat. Melany Neton is head of the Craig Sea Sharks. She says this Saturday’s meet is especially fun because it is Father’s Day weekend.
Neton says they’re expecting about 65 kids in the swim meet. And they need an announcer, if you know of anyone.
The Steamboat Women’s Rugby Team is having a kickoff party fundraiser. It starts at 6 p.m. at The Barley in Steamboat Thursday night. It’s a pride-themed hoedown and the team is donating 10% of their earnings to Yampa Valley Pride in honor of Pride Month. Costumes are encouraged. If you’re interested in joining the team, practices are from 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Whistler Field in Steamboat.
