All of the rain in the Yampa Valley has caused problems for those trying to get to the Rainbow Gathering. You have to get there on many miles of dirt roads in northwest Routt County. Those headed to the gathering are being told to go to Craig and head north, then go east to the gathering into Routt County. But wet roads have made them slippery. Moffat County closed County Road 1 up to Routt County Road 82 which also was closed after three cars got stuck Thursday morning and blocked it. Mo Demorat with the Routt County Office of Emergency Management says getting a tow truck up there would range from between $600 and $1000 dollars.
More heavy rain Thursday night continues to cause slippery road conditions on the dirt roads. Then for those who have gone north from Hayden, the county was re-grading that dirt road yesterday because so many washboard sections.
The official start of the week-long gathering of the Rainbow Family is today. Pictures are on our website.
In an unconfirmed report from a Rainbow Gathering social media site, a picture of a positive COVID test was posted with the line, “Covid has arrived at the gathering and is spreading.”
