The Yampa River in Craig and in Steamboat was cleaned up by volunteers on Saturday.
Friends of the Yampa took a tally in Steamboat, which among other things included 394 golf balls in the river, 26 T-shirts, 549 cigarette butts, 28 sunglasses, six squatter homeless camps, and a dead beaver. The full list is below.
Marge came down from Clark to help clean up the Yampa.
“I did find two full beers, and a vodka soda… cold!”
About 50 volunteers helped with the clean up in Steamboat Springs and ten in Craig, which was about 150 volunteer hours. Jenny Frithsen is with Friends of the Yampa.
“We in northwest Colorado are so lucky to have the Yampa River. When we clean it up, we show that we care for it and we set a great example to all of the visitors coming to visit this part of the state.”
In Craig, the Northwest Colorado Chapter of the Parrotheads dug in for the dirty work. John Husband says they collected about eight bags of trash and a bucket of cans. He added, “That’s not as much as we’ve seen in the past.”
