The Yampa River in Craig and in Steamboat was cleaned up by 50 volunteers on Saturday. Friends of the Yampa took a tally in Steamboat, which among other things included 394 golf balls in the river, 26 T-shirts, 549 cigarette butts, 28 sunglasses, six squatter homeless camps, and a dead beaver.
Marge came down from Clark to help clean up the Yampa.

In Craig, the Northwest Colorado Chapter of the Parrotheads did the dirty work, collecting about eight bags of trash and a bucket of cans.
Jill Hafey has been chosen as the new superintendent of the Moffat County School District. Hafey has been the principal at Sunset Elementary in Craig. She is also a graduate of Moffat County High School. Hafey will be in the superintendent’s office starting next Monday, July 18.
The Steamboat Springs School District is also hiring a new superintendent. A Meet & Greet of the four candidates is scheduled for 5 p.m. next Wednesday, July 20 in Olympian Hall at Howelsen Hill. Right now, Celine Wicks is the acting superintendent after the recent retirement of Brad Meeks.
Online registration for the Moffat County School District starts today. New and returning students can register at MoffatSD.org If you need help, contact your school office starting Aug. 1.
The Moffat County Board of County Commissioners meets tomorrow morning. Agenda items include a progress report on the new Moffat County Courthouse project from Roy Tipton.
Expect some extra traffic through Northwest Colorado on Wednesday. Eastbound I-70 in Glenwood Canyon will be closed at 10 a.m. for about six hours. A large commercial vehicle that crashed last week in the canyon is being removed by Colorado Department of Transportation. Cars headed east on I-70 will be re-routed through Rio Blanco, Moffat, and Routt counties.
Yampa Street in Steamboat Springs will be closed between 8th and 9th this week, starting today. It’s for a private utility installation.
