Steamboat Police have arrested a 35-year-old Steamboat Springs man and charged him with six felony counts of stalking. Officers seized 13 guns, including two shotguns, four AR-15s, and seven handguns. A press release from the City of Steamboat Springs says they also confiscated thousands of rounds of ammunition and more than 100 fully-loaded handgun and rifle magazines. Here’s Steamboat Police Chief Sherry Burlingame.
“This suspect posed a significant danger to our community. We had multiple victims. And of those victims, there were numerous threats against each of them that varied in the nature of violence, but all of them were very violent in the context of it. So we were very concerned about his threat to our community, to the victims, as well as to our officers who were in the process of making the arrest on this. Fortunately, our detectives did a phenomenal job of working with our federal partners in collaboration and really doing their background work on this. When we made the arrest, we made sure that it was safe for our community and safe for our officers. And we got this individual out of our community very, very quickly once we became aware of the threats.”

Chief Burlingame would not say where the man is now. She says his name is not yet being released as the investigation is ongoing.
“We will release his name but we’re not in a position to do that right now because it is an ongoing investigation. We served multiple search warrants and we have to continue to dive into all of that information as part of the prosecution.”
Bail has been set at $25,000.

SSPD Makes Felony Arrest & Gun Seizure
Officers Remove 13 Guns & Thousands Of Rounds Of Ammunition
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-July 15, 2022-With several recent national incidents still fresh in the memories of many, the Steamboat Springs Police Department (SSPD) made a significant felony arrest of a local individual and seizure of evidence this week.
“If you feel someone can be a danger to the community, the Steamboat Springs Police Department will investigate it and take action should the matter warrant such as in this case,” said Patrol Sergeant Sam Silva. “We take these situations very seriously and will act swiftly.”
In collaboration with Federal agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and United States Secret Service, the SSPD launched an investigation based on the individual making numerous and serious threats to friends, family, politicians, and law enforcement. Those efforts resulted in the issuance of a search warrant, seizure of evidence and arrest of the individual.
Through the search warrant due to the felony arrest for six counts of stalking, officers seized 13 guns including two shotguns, four AR-15s and seven handguns. In addition, thousands of rounds of ammunition and more than 100 fully loaded handgun and rifle magazines were confiscated.
“This individual posed a significant threat to our community, so we acted quickly to investigate and collaborate with our federal partners to make an arrest,” commented Chief Sherry Burlingame. “We live in a small town; so, if you see something, say something. There are several ways you can contact us even if you want to remain anonymous. We would rather check something out and have it be nothing than have something happen.”
The Evidence Lab will inventory, document, and package the items as part of the investigation and court case. The case in ongoing and bail has been set at $25,000 for the individual.
