A body was found in a tent under the James Brown Soul Center of the Universe Bridge on Monday. Steamboat Police say the man died of natural causes. He was a vagrant, traveling through, and is not from the area. Police were responding to a welfare check of the tent.
Steamboat Springs Police Department has named Mark Beckett as Police Commander for Operations. Beckett has 21 years of law enforcement experience, most recently with the City of Mesa Police Department in Arizona. Beckett is responsible for 20 sworn and six civilian members of patrol operations, including Animal Control, the Combined Emergency Response Team, Code Enforcement, and Patrol Services.
The Northwest Solar Co-op has chosen Atlasta Solar Center to install solar panels for the 82-member group. This is for residents and businesses in Routt, Moffat, and Rio Blanco counties. An online public information session is Monday evening, Aug. 22. The co-op is open to new members through Sept. 2. It is free to join.

Tonight is a reception for Gail Severson of Severson Supply & Rental in Craig. She has been chosen as one of the Top 25 Most Powerful Women in Business Award by the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce. While she receives the honor in Denver next week, the Craig Chamber is hosting a mixer for Gail from 5-7 p.m. tonight at the Yampa Building in Craig and everyone is invited.
You should be seeing a lot of Corvettes around Steamboat Springs starting today. The 47th Annual Vettes on the Rockies are in town. On Saturday, the Corvettes will be on display, so part of Yampa Street will be closed and so will 12th Street from Yampa to Lincoln. The event is free and you are welcome to walk through the car show to see the classic Corvettes as well as the new ones.
Work is scheduled to start Monday for the new playground at Little Toots Park in Steamboat Springs. The old structure is getting hauled out to make room for the new equipment. The site will be closed. The new playground should be ready to go by the end of September. The Little Toots Playground was supposed to be built last year, but there was an issue with getting some of the equipment.
Hockey players can now register for the upcoming hockey season with the Steamboat Stampede Youth Hockey Association. Registration is live through SteamboatYouthHockey.com

Look for a check in the mail. Colorado residents who filed their taxes before June 30 are getting a tax rebate of $750 per person, probably in the next two weeks but definitely by the end of the month. The money comes from taxes collected by the state that goes over the cap set by the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, or Tabor.
