The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has awarded Steamboat Springs Transit (SST) a grant for $2,353,400 purchase three new hybrid electric/diesel buses and the overhaul of one of its regional coaches. There was a local match of $588,600 more. The 35-foot hybrid diesel/electric buses have proven to do well in the mountains. More on the story.
The Routt County Fair continues at the fairgrounds in Hayden. Tuesday was the Dog Show.
John McKenzie is going into 5th grade. He was showing his dog, Dixie, which is a McNab breed. They were working on their commands.
Events today include the Poultry Show and Swine Show with some Team and Muley Roping tonight in the Outdoor Arena. Here is Tami Eggers, the Routt County 4H Youth Development Agent.
All of the fun is at the Routt County Fairgrounds in Hayden. Thursday is Rabbit Show in the morning and Breeding Beef Show at 2 p.m. Thursday night is the Beneath These Western Skies Bonfire. More fun continues on Friday with the Demolition Derby Friday night. There are only a few tickets left.
There is a Community Bear Aware presentation Thursday evening at Bud Werner Library in Steamboat. Christy Bubenheim from Colorado Parks and Wildlife in Steamboat will talk about bear behavior and how you can be more bear aware. It’s at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow.
Also Thursday night is a special performance at Yampa River Botanic Park with four members of the Steamboat Symphony Orchestra. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and it is free.
The Craig Swimming Complex is open through this Saturday with different times for public swim, lap swim, and the wave pool. Friday and Saturday is the last day of the Craig Wave Pool for the summer.
This Saturday is Wild Bunch Day up in Brown’s Park in Moffat County. The party at the Old Brown’s Park School starts at 10 a.m. and runs ‘til the cows come home. Proceeds from the food, bake sale, and flea market go to the restoration of the old school house.
This Saturday is the 110th anniversary of the Old Timer’s Reunion Dinner and Dance in Meeker. It’s at the Freeman Fairfield Community Center, from 3-11 p.m.
And finally… Zipper Merge in the construction zone along Hwy 40 in Steamboat. Use both lanes until the merge point.
