The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is reporting another COVID death in Routt County. The total is now up to 30 Routt County residents who have died from COVID, once again, according to the CDPHE.
Joe Laliberte has been named as the interim principal for Sleeping Giant School. He has been the assistant principal at the middle school for the past four years. He replaces Jennifer Malouff who submitted her resignation last week.
Eron Haubert is the interim principal at Strawberry Park Elementary, where she has been the assistant principal under Dr. Celine Wicks who is now superintendent of the school district.

The Routt County Fair continues at the fairgrounds in Hayden. The Grand Champion Rabbit overall goes to 11-year-old Soroco 6th grader Taylor Clyncke who told us about her rabbit.
“Her name is Diamond. She won because she is a very well taken care of bunny. She is good with almost everything.”
Clyncke is also in the running for fair royalty.
Poppy Wilcox won Grand Champion Reserve. She’ll be a 4th grader, from Steamboat.
Kenzie Moore also won Grand Champion Intermediate Showmanship with her rabbit, Willow. It’s her first year in 4H. She is from Steamboat.
For the cattle… Grand Champion Market Beef goes to Peyton Baker, who will be a sophomore at Hayden High School.
“Dutton has always been very special to me since I got him in January. He was a very last minute calf. He has always been a really special calf to me because of his personality.”
Grand Champion for Showmanship is Emi Ramirez who is off to the University of Wyoming.

Linda Long of South Routt was also recognized at the Routt County Fair for working in Exhibit Hall for 50 years. It used to be in the Rabbit Hutch Building run by her friend Shirley.
“It was raining really hard. I just stepped in to get out of the rain. Shirley was covering everything feverishly because the building leaked like a sieve. I said to her, ‘Can I help you Shirley?’ and she said, ‘Yeah,’ and that started it and she never did let me quit.”
Today is the Goat Show and the Sheep Show. Tonight is the Demolition Derby. It’s sold out.
Saturday night the livestock auction and also the Ned Ledoux Concert at the fairgrounds. You can still get tickets for that through the RouttCountyFair.org website.
Also, 28 kids from Routt County 4H are headed to the Colorado 4H State Shooting Championships in Pueblo this weekend.
The Moffat County Humane Society needs a few large sturdy dog houses. If you have one you no longer use, the Humane Society would love to have it. They’ll come pick it up so give them a call.

The inaugural Colorado Mustang Stampede is in town. Check out the cars on display on Yampa Street in downtown Steamboat Springs on Saturday.
The fundraising BBQ for North Routt Community Charter School is from 4-7 p.m. tonight. It’s at the Steamboat Lake Outpost, formerly the Roadhouse.
Saturday is Wild Bunch Day up in Brown’s Park in Moffat County. The party at the Old Brown’s Park School starts at 10 a.m. and runs ‘til the cows come home.
The Craig Fire Rescue Annual Firefighter’s Ball Hawaiian Luau is Saturday night. It’s at the O.P. Bar and Grill in Craig. Get your tickets from any firefighter.
This Saturday is the 110th anniversary of the Old Timer’s Reunion Dinner and Dance in Meeker. It’s at the Freeman Fairfield Community Center, from 3-11 p.m.
And finally… Zipper Merge in the construction zone along Hwy 40 in Steamboat. Use both lanes until the merge point.
