Local High School Mountain Bike Team competes in Frisco

Thirty athletes representing the Steamboat High School Mountain Bike Team competed in Frisco this past weekend. In a couple of top finishes, Abby Olson from Steamboat Mountain School took first place for the sophomore girls and Anna Rhodes with the Sailors finished first for the freshmen. The high school team is a composite team of schools in the Yampa Valley.

The next competition for the team is in Leadville on Sept. 11.

The first  Colorado League High School Mountain bike race held in Frisco,  Saturday, Aug. 27. Thirty SSWSC athletes competed representing both Steamboat Springs High School and Steamboat Mountain School in two separate divisions.

  • Varsity racers included: Caleb Haack, Thomas Cooper, Aidan Haack, Curtis Zanni and Primo Famiglietti.
  • JV racers included: Kyan Strong, Colten Casavecchia, Grant Linford, Jace Rabesa, Samuel Thomas, Thomas Miller, Caroline Landers, Jesse Weaver, Aiden Kerrigan, Madeline Rochon, Liz Lipscomb, Mary McLarnon and Wren Capra
  • Sophomore racers included: Abby Olson, Dietze Gibson, Ian McLarney and Wrigley Neely
Eva Minotto, Anna Rhodes, and Emma Crocker
Elliott Nance, Luke Bedell, and Jackson Sloop
  • Freshman racers included:  Luke Bedell, Jackson Sloop, Thomas Agosta, Ryan Montgomery, Elliot Nance, Eva Minotto, Anna Rhodes and Emma Crocker

 

Steamboat Springs High School team placed #2 for Division Two. Steamboat Mountain School team placed #3 for Division Three. The Steamboat High School team is a composite team of all the schools in the Yampa Valley,but if we have more than 5 athletes from one school each is scored separately

 

CO League HS MTB has a spirit contest for each event which the combined Steamboat schools won showing excellence in teamwork and camaraderie. 

 

All participants strongly completed their respective courses—18 miles for Varsity riders and 12 miles for JV, Sophomore and Freshman riders.

The combined team had six podium places:

  • 3rd place Varsity Boys-Aidan Haack, SSHS
  • 2nd place JV Girls—Mary Mclarnon, SSHS
  • 1st place Sophomore Girls—Abby Olson, SMS
  • 1st place Freshman Girls—Anna Rhodes, SSHS
  • 2nd place Freshman Boys—Ryan Montgomery, SSHS
  • 2nd place Freshman Girls—Eva Minotto, SSHS
