The new Routt County Workforce Housing Preservation Fund has been set up through Yampa Valley Community Foundation to help preserve workforce housing.
It’s specifically in reaction to the recent announcement of the purchase of the land at the White Haven Mobile Home Park in west Steamboat. While residents there may own or rent the 29 mobile homes, the land is owned by someone else and there is a contract to buy that land for over $3 million. Homeowners were given 90 days to come up with the money to buy the land under their mobile homes. This fund could be used to do that.
If the White Haven property is sold, the money in the fund will be used for the purchase, preservation, or emergency capital improvements of other mobile home parks or low income housing in Routt County.
Donations can be made through Yampa Valley Community Foundation
The official groundbreaking was Wednesday on the new entrance to Yampa River Botanic Park in Steamboat Springs. Kathy Connell is president of the board of the park. She said the chain link fence entrance that is being replaced has been there for 25 years and it was time.
The entrance at the front, and then the back entrance along the core trail is expected to cost about half a million dollars, and it’s all through private donations. About $350,000 has been raised so far. There is a donate button on the Yampa River Botanic Park website.
Work should be finished by November 1, weather permitting.
