Bond has been set for the two teenagers allegedly involved in an incident at Steamboat Springs High School Tuesday. Both 18-year-old Zackery Durham and 19-year-old Damion Rhodes have been charged with criminal attempt and menacing use of a deadly weapon which are felonies, and also Interference with an educational institute which is a misdemeanor. They both appeared in court Wednesday afternoon from the Routt County Jail.

Damion Rhodes is a student at Steamboat Springs High School. His bond was set at $2,000 cash or surety. His father joined the virtual courtroom to say that he was in North Carolina and couldn’t get back to Steamboat for a few days and he had concerns about his son being released on bond without a parent there. Judge Erin Wilson set that as one of the bond conditions that Damion Rhodes has to live with one of his parents to be released on bond.

Bond for Zackery Durham was set at $5,000. Judge Erin Wilson expressed concern about a Snapchat picture that Durham allegedly posted with what looked like a rifle but was actually an Airsoft gun. Durham was born in Steamboat but now lives in Hamilton which is outside of Craig. The bond conditions for both men include that they cannot possess or use any firearms, weapons or ammunition, or use drugs or alcohol and cannot have any contact with any teachers, staff or students at Steamboat Springs High School.

Judge Wilson told both men that what they are accused of is extremely concerning for the students and for the two of them, as the outcome could have gone very differently had someone not reported the Snapchat picture on Safe 2 Tell, and had Steamboat Police not acted as quickly as they did.

Both Rhodes and Durham are back in court next Tuesday, Oct. 4.
