Opioid settlement funds to combat the opioid epidemic are coming to Northwest Colorado. The Colorado Opioid Abatement Council says $18 million is being paid to local governments in the state. Region #1 includes Moffat, Rio Blanco, Routt, Jackson, and Grand counties, which will get $357,809.

For more information about the council, go to coag.gov/opioids. To view more information about the funding requests and regions, please visit the Colorado opioid settlement funds framework dashboard at coag.gov/opioids/dashboard.

A new Craig Police truck will be on the roads today. Craig Police Chief Mike Cochran says it was ordered in January of 2021 and it just came in.

Craig Police will soon be ordering another police truck because last week, one of their vehicles was likely totaled. They’re waiting on the final numbers from the insurance adjuster. An officer was making a traffic stop along Hwy 40. The officer was speaking to the driver when another car came up and hit the patrol truck from behind. The officer was able to jump out of the way so no one was hurt. A 24-year-old Craig woman was driving. Colorado State Patrol says no tickets have been issued yet, and CSP adds no drugs or alcohol was involved.

Yampa Valley Electric is reminding people not to get scammed on random phone calls where the person says your electricity will be shut off if you don’t make a payment right now over the phone or with a gift card. It happened to a Yampa Valley Electric employee, where they made the threat, but that employee knew better. Don’t get scammed.

It’s National Honey Month. Steamboat-based Honey Stinger is celebrating by making a donation to Bee the Future, just west of Hayden. Bee the Future is dedicated to teaching Yampa Valley youth about beekeeping. Honey Stinger presented a check for $5,000 to Bethany Karulak-Baker who is the executive director.

“Beekeeping is critical to the survival of the planet. Also to pollination. Children need to understand where their fruits and vegetables are coming from. That’s what we focus on at Bee the Future.”

Bethany says she’ll use the donation for scholarships when students visit and some new bee suits.

Honey Stinger has also started beekeeping. They have two hives with 120,000 bees on the Steamboat campus of Colorado Mountain College.
