Bond was reduced Tuesday for both men involved in a recent incident at Steamboat Springs High School. Both 18-year-old Zackery Durham and 19-year-old Damion Rhodes have been charged with Interference with an Educational Institute and Criminal Attempt, and Menacing/Use of a Deadly Weapon. Judge Erin Wilson expressed concern about their ages and no criminal history, but added that the allegations against the two are concerning.
First, Durham’s bond was reduced to $300 cash. Judge Erin Wilson says conditions include where he lives in Steamboat and he has to stay working at a local concrete company.
Bond for Rhodes was reduced to $1000 cash or surety. He had both parents on the Webex call from the courtroom, neither of whom live in Steamboat. His mom, Vicki, confirmed that Damion was suspended from Steamboat Springs High School for ten days, but that the school would allow distance learning. His mom also was against Damion being released on his own without a parent there, for his own safety. He will be allowed to leave Colorado to go live with one of his parents.
Both Durham and Rhodes are not allowed to have any guns, firearms, or ammunition. They can’t have any alcohol or drugs without a valid prescription. There is a mandatory protection order where neither can have any contact with anyone on the campus of Steamboat Springs High School, unless Rhodes is setting up distance learning. And they can’t have any contact with any known victims or each other in the case.
Both are next in court on Oct. 19.
