Alanis Morissette has shared a statement as to why she dropped out of a planned performance at this weekend’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, stating that she found it to be an “environment that reduces women.” Morrissette had been slated to join Olivia Rodrigo for a performance of “You’re So Vain” as part of the evening’s tribute to Carly Simon.

While none of the performers had been announced ahead of time, reports said that Morissette dropped out of the ceremony after rehearsals on Friday. Morissette hasn’t fully detailed the circumstances for her departure, but posted a note to her Instagram story indicating that the show’s production process had changed her mind, and she was unhappy with the way she was being treated: “There is nothing better than a team of diverse people coming together with one mission. I’ll continue to show up in those environments with bells on … Thankfully, I am at a point in my life where there is no need for me to spend time in an environment that reduces women.”

Rodrigo went on to perform “You’re So Vain” solo, and Sara Bareilles read an acceptance letter that Simon had written prior to the ceremony (Simon herself was not present due to the recent deaths of two of her sisters).

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will air on HBO on November 19.
